About Solana
Solana is a high-throughput smart contract platform. Its design was published by Anatoly Yakovenko in 2017 and the mainnet beta launched in March 2020. SOL pays for transactions and is staked by validators to secure the network.
Solana combines proof of stake with a timing mechanism called proof of history, which lets validators agree on the order of events quickly. Blocks are produced roughly every 400 milliseconds, and fees are usually a small fraction of a cent.
SOL has no fixed supply cap. New tokens are issued to stakers at an inflation rate that declines each year toward a long-term 1.5%.
