About XRP
XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger, a public blockchain launched in 2012 by David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb and Arthur Britto. The ledger was built for fast, low-cost payments and settles transactions in a few seconds.
The XRP Ledger does not use mining. Validators agree on the order of transactions through a consensus protocol. All 100 billion XRP were created at launch, and a portion is held by the company Ripple, much of it in escrow that releases on a schedule.
XRP is often discussed alongside cross-border payments. As with every asset here, the live data shows how the market values it today, not whether any particular use is succeeding.
