About Dogecoin

Dogecoin was created in December 2013 by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer as a light-hearted take on the cryptocurrencies of the time. It became one of the most widely recognised crypto assets and has an active community.

Dogecoin uses Scrypt proof of work and has been merge-mined with Litecoin since 2014, which shares mining security between the two. Blocks arrive about every minute and each pays a fixed 10,000 DOGE, so supply grows by a steady amount every year with no cap.

Dogecoin's price has historically reacted strongly to social media attention. The 1 hour and 24 hour change columns make those bursts visible as they happen.
