About Litecoin
Litecoin was created by Charlie Lee and launched in October 2011. It is based on Bitcoin's code with changes intended to make it suited to smaller, faster payments.
Litecoin produces a block about every 2.5 minutes and uses the Scrypt proof of work algorithm. Its supply is capped at 84 million LTC, four times Bitcoin's, and the block reward halves every 840,000 blocks.
In 2022 Litecoin added MimbleWimble Extension Blocks, an optional feature for more private transactions. Litecoin also helps secure Dogecoin through merged mining.
