About Tether

Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin: a token designed to hold a value of one US dollar. It was launched in 2014 and is issued by the company Tether, which says each token is backed by reserves and publishes periodic reserve attestations.

USDT exists on several blockchains, including Ethereum and TRON. Supply grows when the issuer mints tokens for customers and shrinks when tokens are redeemed, so the circulating figure moves with demand rather than following a schedule.

A stablecoin price that drifts away from 1.00 is worth noticing: small deviations of a fraction of a cent are normal in trading, while larger ones usually signal stress. Our chart makes those deviations easy to see.
