About Chainlink

Chainlink is a decentralised oracle network founded by Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis and launched in 2017. Oracles bring outside information, such as asset prices, onto blockchains so smart contracts can use it.

Independent node operators fetch data from several sources, agree on a value and publish it on chain. Many lending and derivatives protocols rely on these price feeds to value collateral.

LINK is the token used to pay node operators and, in newer versions of the network, to stake as a guarantee of good behaviour. Its total supply is fixed at one billion.
